Private Bushcraft Days,
West Coast of Scotland
If you are visiting or live in the West Highlands of Scotland, perhaps we can interest you in a tailored bushcraft session for your family or friends? What better way to immerse yourself in this wild landscape, learning about the fauna and flora, and having fun while acquiring new and exciting bushcraft skills!
The Scottish Highlands contain the UK's last wilderness areas: stunningly beautiful, yet potentially hostile if you are caught unprepared.
Our chief instructor, Leon, who runs the courses, is a qualified ecologist and professional bushcraft survival instructor. He is permanently based here in Moidart, just 35 miles west of Fort William.
Please contact us to discuss your requirements and arrange a date, then once agreed, book using the link below.
Activities
During a session we can cover a wide range of topics, so just choose from these to design a unique course suitable for you and your family or friends. Typically three of the following activities would make up half a day, 6 for a whole day, but please discuss what you want to do and we will do our best to help.
-
Fire with sparks and natural materials (including wet weather firelighting)
-
Fire by friction - light a fire using the bow drill (+ £30)
-
Cooking on the campfire, (as with everything we do, we aim to do this safely and with minimal impact)
-
Trees, plants and fungi, their uses in bushcraft, what you can and can't eat!
-
Coastal foraging - shellfish, fish and seaweed
-
Leaf shelter building
-
Survival equipment and wilderness emergency procedures
-
Water collection and purification
-
Knifework and carving - e.g. whittle your own spoon or spatula or use this in firelighting
-
Cord making with local materials
-
Tarps and knots
-
Tracking and wildlife (Leon studied otters in Scotland for his PhD)
-
Mountain or low level navigation (we are providers for the National Navigation Award Scheme and Leon is a Mountain Leader)
We can also combine these activities with some canoeing in the sea loch if you wish for an additional £80.
As an example, we can take you on a Scottish island survival adventure, build a campfire and cook your lunch on a quiet sandy beach looking out across the loch to the small isles.
Discover the secrets of the ancient broadleaved woodlands nestling under the mountains of Moidart. It will be a unique experience you and your group won't forget!
